Friends of ACP supports the Values of Community Psychology

Friends of ACP strives to uphold the values of community psychology. We believe in transparency, so here is a list of our values and what they mean to us.

Human Diversity
Supporting diversity means acknowledging, accepting and embracing difference, regardless of ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability status, socioeconomic status, gender and age.

Social Justice
Increasing social justice means uniting in solidarity for upholding human rights that grant everybody dignity, access to resources, and opportunities to participate in shaping the policies and agendas that impact our lives.

Individual & Community Well-being
Any one person is only as healthy and happy as the community that supports us. Health, both physical and mental, is more highly correlated with social factors than with individual biology. We need to build resilient, sustainable, interdependent communities to support each of us to have an existence characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity.

Self-Determination
When an individual experiences self-esteem, self-efficacy, expectations of success, and a sense of control over their life, they are having and experience of self-determination. This is one of the core necessities for success; professionally, personally, and communally.

Theory and Praxis
The goal of theory in community psychology is be useful and actionable. Praxis is the process of embodying, enacting, or practicing a theory in an engaged, applied context. There is an important cycle of research, action, and reflection that helps community psychologists maintain the praxis of the theories they study, develop and utilize.
